Hal grew up in Orlando and graduated from the University of Central Florida. He moved to Miami and was the sales manager for Hewes Boats, a manufacturer and boat retail operation in Miami that built boats for many of the best guides and sport fisherman in South Florida. Hal was a member of the Rod and Reel Club of Miami Beach, one of the most famous fishing clubs in the world. Hal became a saltwater fly fishing guide in the Florida Keys, Bahamas and other premier fishing areas. He guided his clients to numerous world records in the Keys and other noted locations. Hal started a small chain of retail stores in the Keys and South Florida. These stores sold high end clothing for men and women and fishing tackle. Hal developed and manufactured a line of saltwater fly rods, conventional rods and saltwater fly reels that set the standard for that type of equipment. Hal was on the TV show, The Billfish Extreme Release League for several years. That was the most expensive fishing show ever produced and featured 10 sport fishing yachts that traveled the Caribbean and South America. Hal started and ran Hells Bay Boatworks that was the premiere builder of shallow water fishing boats. Hells Bay was the first production company to build this type of boat using vacuum consolidation and cores. This process reduced the weight by 50% and forever changed the way other companies built their boats. Hells Bay was sold and Hal started a new boat company, Chittum Skiffs and Chittum Yachts which continues to innovate with cutting edge, 100% carbon construction and the most sophisticated designs in the industry.
